Nassy, David
(ft. 18th cent.)
   Caribbean physician and communal leader. He was born in Surinam, and became president of the Jewish community there. His Essai historique sur la colonie de Surinam is a record of the Jewish role in the colony's history. Eventually he settled in Philadelphia and became the first Jewish physician to practise in the city. In 1795 he returned to Surinam, where he went into business. Later he published a tract supporting the emancipation of Dutch Jewry.
